A CEO or Business Owner is the person who leads and oversees the entire operation of a business. They’re responsible for setting the vision, making key decisions, managing resources, and ensuring the business runs effectively and grows over time. Whether they’re running a small start-up or a large company, they take on the risk, the leadership, and the strategy behind the business’s success.

Career Kickstart: Job Readiness Workshop

For Year 11–13 students | STAR-funded | Small Group Intensive (4–6 students)
 

Designed for the next generation of employees, changemakers and go getters.
 

Do you have students who are ready to take their first step into the workforce, but just need a boost in confidence, direction and real world skills to get there?
 

The Career Kickstart: Job Readiness Workshop is a hands on, 2 day STAR-funded experience designed to prepare ākonga for employment. From crafting standout applications to connecting directly with local employers and industry leaders.
 

This isn’t theory based career advice; it’s practical, empowering and all about giving students the skills, confidence and strategy to actually secure a job.
 

Day One: The Job Seeker Toolkit

Students dive into an interactive, confidence-building day focused on preparing for employment.
They’ll learn:

  • How to write a professional CV and cover letter that stand out

  • What employers really look for in applications and interviews

  • How to position themselves well both online and in person

  • How to find legitimate job opportunities and use NZ job sites effectively

  • Interview skills and mock interview practice

  • Professional presentation and first impressions

  • (Optional) Work-ready shopping session — building confidence through appropriate clothing and personal presentation

  • By the end of Day One, students will walk away with a polished CV, a draft cover letter, and the confidence to apply for real roles.
     

Day Two: From Classroom to Career

This is where preparation meets opportunity.
Students will:

  • Enjoy a networking breakfast with local employers and industry leaders

  • Learn about real job pathways, workplace expectations, and opportunities available right now

  • Engage in conversations with professionals who may offer future employment or mentoring opportunities

  • Research local job listings and visit nearby businesses to introduce themselves and build genuine connections

  • Attend at least one pre-arranged job interview opportunity (retail, hospitality or entry-level role suited to their availability)

  • Create a personal follow-up plan to continue building relationships and track their job-seeking progress

Future CEO: 2-Day Entrepreneurship Taster Experience

For Year 11-13 students | STAR-funded | Small Group Intensive (4-6 students)

Designed for the next generation of founders, leaders and game changers.

Do you have students who think differently, lead naturally, or are already dreaming of launching their
own business? The Future CEO Taster Experience is a dynamic 2 day STAR-funded course
designed to give high-potential Year 11-13 students a real-world introduction to what it takes to
become a business owner, entrepreneur, or CEO.

We're not talking textbooks and theory, this is practical, hands on and built to bridge classroom
learning with real world insight from a wāhine who HAS been where THEY are now.


Day One: Building the Mindset & the Plan
Students dive into an engaging, hands on workshop that covers:


- What makes a successful business owner?
- Idea generation & validation
- Understanding customers and market fit
- Basic business structures and startup planning
- Confidence, mindset and how to back yourself

By the end of the day, students will have shaped their own mini business plan and built confidence
in their potential as future leaders.


Day Two: Breakfast with CEOs + Real-World Reflection
This is where inspiration becomes reality, students will:


- Enjoy a hosted breakfast with real CEOs and business owners
- Hear honest, relatable stories about how these leaders got started and what a day in their life looks
like

- Chat with CEOs in a relaxed setting to get advice, ask questions and share their own business
ideas in conversation
- Confident students are welcome to present their plan more formally but casual conversation is
just as encouraged
- Head back to the classroom for a reflective "Before & After" session to compare how their thinking
has evolved
